MANILA, Philippines — This week, the Philippine Senate finally convenes as an impeachment court for the trial of Vice President Duterte. But even before the articles of impeachment could be read, 18 senators voted to return the complaint to the House of Representatives to supposedly allow the latter to address alleged constitutional infirmities in the complaint, raising further uncertainties on the fate of the trial.

In the US, the Trump administration deploys the National Guard, and then the Marines to Los Angeles as his government intensified raids on suspected undocumented immigrants, fueling more outrage from street protesters and Democratic leaders who raised concerns over a national crisis.

Before the week ends, more than 200 people were killed in the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade when an Air India plane bound for London with 242 people on board crashed minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12.
