MANILA, Philippines – It all began with a flat tire.
For Marion Raven, what started as an inconvenient morning mishap led to a fateful reunion with Marit Larsen — one that fans had been unknowingly waiting for over two decades.
“I feel like it was destiny that decided,” Marion recalled.
“Last year, early in the morning, I had a flat tire. Because of that, I stopped by a small coffee shop near my place. Usually, there’s nobody there, but suddenly, Marit walked in.”
Marit, equally surprised, remembered the moment well.
“We were the only two people there. We hadn’t seen each other for over 20 years.”
In that unexpected moment, the seeds of an M2M reunion were planted. What followed was an emotional catch-up session at Marion’s kitchen, spanning four to five hours of laughter, nostalgia, and even a few tears.
“We started thinking about all the things we did accomplish, but also the things we never got to do because things ended so quickly,” Marit explained.
“One of those things was touring. We always wanted to play concerts, but we never got the chance.”
Back then, the duo had always agreed that they’d only perform if they were having fun. So when it didn’t feel like it anymore, they just stopped.
But their unexpected reunion also led to a revelation — M2M’s music was still resonating across the world, with over a million monthly listeners on Spotify.
“That really surprised us,” Marion said. “So we decided, let’s do it.”
And just like that, within the five-hour period, M2M was back.
Long-awaited Philippine return
For Filipino fans, this reunion is nothing short of a dream come true.
The last time M2M visited the Philippines was on April 28, 2000, during a promotional event at SM Megamall.
“It was crazy,” Marion reminisced, telling Rappler in an online interview.
“One of the craziest things any of us had ever experienced. We were signing autographs, and so many people showed up.”
This time, however, M2M is finally giving their Filipino fans the full concert experience they’ve waited 25 years for.
“We can’t wait to have a real end-to-end concert and have people come and sing along with us,” Marit shared excitedly.
“Plus, we’ll get to see more of the Philippines! We’re playing in Manila, but also visiting Davao and Cebu.”
Meaning behind The Better Endings Tour
Their upcoming tour carries a deeply personal message.
The Better Endings Tour isn’t just about performing again — it’s about closure, celebration, and reconnection.
“We felt like there was so much unresolved in the story of us,” Marit said.
“Now that we’re grown-ups, we get to take back the narrative, celebrate these songs, and the friendship and songwriting that defined us.”
For the duo, this tour is more than just a musical comeback.
“It feels like a reunion, not just for us, but for the fans too,” Marion added.
“People who were listening to us back then are reconnecting now, and that’s so beautiful.”
Sold-out celebration
Filipino fans wasted no time in showing their love.
Tickets for their first Manila show on May 1 sold out in just 20 minutes, prompting a second show on May 2, which also quickly sold out.
“We didn’t know if anybody was going to show up,” Marit admitted.
“And now we’re looking at 17,000 people across two nights in Manila. It’s surreal.”
As M2M prepares to take the stage once more, their long-awaited reunion is shaping up to be more than just a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
“We’re getting to give this very unresolved story of us and our friendship and our collaboration a better ending,” Marit reflected.
“It feels so fulfilling right now, and it’s already happening.” – Rappler.com
