MANILA, Philippines – Education Secretary Sonny Angara said new guidelines will be issued to address the “repetitive paperwork” that the Second Congressional Commission on Education noted has been distracting teachers from their main task.
Angara acknowledged that the Department of Education (DepEd) has not fully adopted digitalization, with reports still being done manually.
“We need to go into the 21st century and have advanced data management systems. Sayang ‘yung information namin (Our information is not being maximized), [the DepEd is] such a big organization,” Angara said in a Rappler Talk interview on February 18.
Angara added that the department will narrow down the paperwork from the current 100 or so reports being done.
“Below 20 kung kaya namin, gagawin, and very simplified. Pati ‘yung laman ng report, ika-cut na natin ‘yung hindi necessary na information. So, we’re about to issue a new department order on that, actually,” he told Rappler.
(We’ll keep it below 20 if we can, and make it very simplified. We’ll also cut unnecessary information from the report. So, we’re about to issue a new department order on that, actually.)
