MANILA, Philippines – Pope Francis is presiding over a Mass at a Roman cemetery on Saturday, November 2, to pray for the faithful departed as the Catholic Church observes All Souls’ Day.
The All Souls’ Day Mass led by the Pope takes place at Laurentino Cemetery in Rome at 10 am (Rome time) or 5 pm (Manila time) on Saturday.
In his 11 years as pontiff, this is Francis’ second time to lead an All Souls’ Day Mass at the 27-hectare Laurentino Cemetery, according to the Catholic News Service. The first time was in 2018, when he said Mass at the cemetery’s “Garden of Angels” for dead children and the unborn.
All Souls’ Day, November 2, is a day to pray for the deceased who are believed to be in purgatory, while All Saints’ Day, is a day to honor the dead who are believed to be with God in heaven.
